New Zealand's anti-immigration party launches campaign
01 August 2005
The anti immigration party New Zealand
First has launched its election campaign across the country for the upcoming elections on 17 September.
The party could be a key player in the next parliament, although other parties shy away from a coalition with what some call a "racist" and "xenophobic" party.
The party's leader Winston Peters arrived on stage on the back of a Harley Davidson. Mr Peters says the old parties have been too soft on immigrants and his is the only party which would keep "undesirables" out of new Zealand. The opposition national party would probably need the support of new Zealand first to form a government.
