The Australian government will consider extending visas for Egyptians in Australia whose visas are about to expire; This is due to the political situation in Egypt.
Egyptian citizens within Australia under temporary visas are urged to contact the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to discuss their options.
"DIAC would take the circumstances in Egypt into account when dealing with requests for visa extensions," said Immigration Minister Chris Bowen.
"My department will consider -- on a case by case basis -- the options for Egyptians in Australia whose visas to remain here are about to run out," he added.
Widespread protests against Egypt's ruling government began on 25 January 2011. The demonstrations and riots are the largest since 1977.
